Jemez Pueblo pottery

The Jemez Pueblo abandoned its traditional style of pottery at the time of the Pueblo Rebelion.
They had painted intricate fine-line, black on white designs on their pottery for centuries, but
nobody has done so at the pueblo since 1700. This lack of communicating tradition has left many
Jemez potters not knowing what other pueblos would call "the right way". At the same time this
frees and Jemez potters to develop their own style.
